How to Use Hyperlinks

Document Hyperlinks
Like any other kind of document, the documents in Ideagen Quality Management may contain hyperlinks. These can reference outside objects, folders, or other documents within Ideagen Quality Management. Depending on the type of document you're working with, there are separate ways to add and update these links.
The following steps are written for documents edited in Word but can be applied to any other editing application. See Hyperlinks for how to add additional hyperlinks to Ideagen Quality Management-generated emails.
Tip: You can now use the 'Copy folder Link' setting in the Actions drop-down to create Hyperlinks to folders in documents. A link is copied to your clipboard that you can then insert into the documents. ({Ideagen Quality Management Host}/Default.aspx?&MODE=BROWSETREE&NODE={folderID})
Creating Hyperlinks to Ideagen Quality Management Documents
- Before inserting a hyperlink from one Ideagen Quality Management document to another, you must find the ID of the document you're linking to. To do this, go to that document's properties and note the ID.
- With the other document open in Word, highlight the text or area where you want the link to go and right-click it and select Hyperlink.
- Add the hyperlink path to the document with the following format: https://{SystemName}/Showdocument.aspx?ID={ID}
Replacing {System Name} with the server's name from your Ideagen Quality Management URL (everything before "Default.aspx") and replacing {ID} with the document ID from step 1 (as shown below).
- Select OK. The link is displayed.
- Hold CTRL and select the link to test that it works. Right-click the link and select Edit Hyperlink if you want to modify anything.
Tip: When viewing a document, you want to hyperlink to, you may also copy the URL from your browser's address bar and simply paste it into the file/location you want to insert the hyperlink, as shown below:
Creating Outside Hyperlinks to Ideagen Quality Management Documents
You can also create a hyperlink to a Ideagen Quality Management document in an outside location. Using a specific URL format below, users click the hyperlink, and it simply downloads the file without ever taking the user to Ideagen Quality Management. This is a great way to control your documents in Ideagen Quality Management, but expose them to Customers and other third parties on your business website, through system or personal emails, and any other electronic content.
- Before inserting a hyperlink that opens a Ideagen Quality Management document, you must find the ID of the document you're linking to. To do this, go to that document's document properties and note the ID.
- Insert the following URL into the desired location, modifying the variables below: https://<SystemName/Showdocument.aspx?ID=<ID>
- replace <SystemName> with your Ideagen Quality Management domain name.
- replace <ID> with the document ID from step 1.
Updating Hyperlink
For Word documents - open the document for editing, Right-click the link and select Edit Hyperlink.
