No special access or permissions are required.

With the launch of the Modern Inbox interface, we will be gradually phasing out support for the Table Inbox and then the Traditional Inbox. You will still be able to use their features, but we will be shifting our development focus to optimising the new design.

This article gives you a quick comparison of the two designs, so you can easily determine which version you're using.
