Removing a text box under a section header
Who is this article for?
Administrators configuring workflows.
Workflow Designer permissions are required.
When using text custom fields in workflows, a small text box may appear below a header.
This article explains why this happens and how to remove it.
1. Overview
When using a text custom field to serve as a section header within a workflow step, you may notice a small vertical text input box rendered below the header.
This typically occurs due to edit/alter permissions allowing the field to remain interactive, even when your intent is to display it as read‑only header text.
2. Removing a text box
To remove the box:
- Open the Workflow Definition.
- Navigate to the step with the text box.
- Set the field to View Only (not editable).
3. Disabling workflow altering
To disable workflow altering for launched workflows:
- Go to Workflow Administration for the target workflow.
- Untick Allow Workflow Instances Permission.
- Click Save Changes.
4. Testing changes
To test that the changes worked:
- Log in as user without Alter Workflow Instances permissions.
- Open a workflow instance.
- Navigate to the step with the header.
- Verify that the text custom field renders as a header without the extra input box.
