Troubleshooting browser tab titles issue for for Show Document links
Who is this article for?
Administrators responsible for managing documents.
Document and Folder permissions are required.
When opening documents via ShowDocument links, the browser tab should display the document name or a generic title like "Show Document". Sometimes, an incorrect or outdated title may appear instead.
This article outlines the reasons for this issue and offers solutions to fix and prevent it.
1. Issue
The tab title issue is due to the document's embedded Title metadata. When uploaded to Ideagen Quality Management (Core), this metadata is preserved.
Browsers may use this metadata for tab titles, overriding the display name in the system. Outdated or irrelevant information in this property can cause confusion when viewing documents via ShowDocument links.
3. Solution
To resolve the issue:
- Locate the affected document.
- Download it to your local system.
- Open the document in Microsoft Word.
- Access the File menu.
- Select Info.
- Click Properties.
- Go to Advanced Properties.
- Switch to the Summary tab.
- Clear or update the Title field to the correct name.
- Click Save.
This issue does not originate from system folder settings or environment variables. It is purely related to document-level metadata.
