Granting permissions to attach documents to tests
Who is this article for?
Administrators configuring test definition permissions.
Test Definition Administration and document security management permissions are required.
Users with Test Definition Administration permissions require both View and Edit security on documents to attach them to test definitions.
Granting attachment permissions
When attaching documents to test definitions, the tick box for selecting documents only appears for items the user has permission to access. Users must have both View and Edit security on the document itself, not just the parent folder.
Note
Having Test Definition Administration alone is not sufficient. Document-level permissions control whether users can select documents for attachment.
To enable users to attach documents to test definitions:
- Navigate to the document in the Documents Tree.
- Right-click the document and select Properties.
- Go to the Security tab.
- Confirm the user's group has both View and Edit permissions.
- If the document should inherit folder permissions, tick Inherit Settings from Parent.
- Click OK to save the changes.
Important
Permission changes take effect after the user logs out and back in.
Troubleshooting attachment issues
If users cannot see tick boxes to select documents for attachment, verify the following:
- The documents exist in the Documents Tree (not as external files)
- The user has View security on the parent folder
- The user has both View and Edit security on the document itself
- If using inheritance, the document is set to Inherit Settings from Parent
- The user has logged out and back in since any permission changes
If the user can attach documents from other folders but not a specific folder, the issue is typically document-level permissions rather than folder-level permissions or Test Definition Administration settings.
