Configuring required fields in a workflow
Who is this article for?
Administrators responsible for configuring and maintaining workflows.
Administrator permissions are required.
In workflows, fields become mandatory through route-specific configuration rather than global form settings, allowing flexible validation at different workflow stages.
This article explains how to configure fields as required.
Configuring required fields
To configure mandatory fields:
- Open the Workflow tab from the main navigation sidebar.
- Select Workflow Definitions.
- Locate and open the relevant workflow (e.g., Corrective Action).
- Select the step where the field should be required.
- Click the relevant route.
- In the route configuration panel, locate Required for Route.
- Select the field(s) to enforce as Mandatory.
- Click Save.
Required fields are enforced only when a user selects the configured route. If multiple routes exist and some do not enforce the field, users may bypass the requirement.
To ensure consistent validation, repeat the configuration for each route and each step where the field must be required.
Important
If not configured on all routes, users may bypass the requirement via alternate paths.
Working with subforms
If your workflow uses subforms, you can mark the entire subform as required or specific fields within the subform.
