Signing in to the Header Footer tool with Single Sign-On (SSO)
Who is this article for?
Administarators who look after client tools.
No special access or permissions are required.
If your organisation uses SAML Single Sign-On (SSO) to sign into Ideagen Quality Management, you may find that the Header Footer Updater (HFT) tool does not accept your usual login credentials.
This article explains why your credentials don't work as expected in this situation.
Sign-in methods
Ideagen Quality Management supports native username-password and SAML-based SSO authentication, allowing both to coexist for different users.
The Header Footer Tool only supports native usernames and passwords; SSO credentials will not work.
This is because the HFT connects directly to the web server API using basic credentials and cannot redirect to external identity providers like Azure AD or ADFS, unlike browser-based SAML.
Setting a password
To use the Header Footer Updater, your account must have a native Ideagen Quality Management Core password set. An administrator can configure this by switching the user's authentication method to Ideagen Quality Management Core and assigning a password.
To set up a local password for a user:
- Go to Administration.
- Select Personnel.
- Locate the user's profile.
- Click Edit.
- In the Authentication field, select Ideagen Quality Management Core.
- In the Password field, enter a new password for the user.
Alternatively, select Use Default to apply the system default password. - Click Save to apply the changes.
- Communicate the new password to the user securely.
- Once the user has finished using the HFT, restore the SSO authentication.
Note
Passwords can be changed from the Personnel profile before an account locks. This helps when a user forgets their Ideagen Quality Management password and needs a new one.
Once a local Ideagen Quality Management password has been set on your account, the user can log into the tool.
Tip
If you previously used the HFT and it worked, but a recent attempt has failed, check that the password was correctly saved in your Personnel profile after being changed.
