How to Address User Modified Error Due to Blank Text in Custom Fields

Customers may encounter an issue where they try to save changes on a subform to a workflow instance and receive an error message around modifications.
To make troubleshooting this issue easier to learn, this article is split into three sections so that you can either walk through the steps in sequence or you can jump to the section relevant to what you are finding:
1. Issue Experienced
This section will explain what occurs when the customer is experiencing the issue.
The customer will receive an error when saving changes on a subform for a workflow instance. The message states, "This workflow instance has been modified and saved elsewhere since you loaded it. Your new values have not been saved."
2. Resolution
This section will provide the resolution for the user modified error.
- The root cause was found by looking at the custom fields from the subform.
- In this case, a text custom field was found to be the problem from the subform.
- When you looked at the text field in the Administration>Custom Fields page, the Default Text box had the cursor in the middle of the text box.
- The blank text was removed by highlighting and deleting or by just pressing the backspace button and Save Changes.
