Customers may encounter issues with the target documents that have had a template applied using the Header Footer tool (HFMUT).
To make troubleshooting this issue easier to learn, this article is split into three sections so that you can either walk through the steps in sequence or you can jump to the section relevant to what you are finding:
1. Issue Experienced
This section will explain what occurs when the customer is experiencing the issue.
The customer will have noticed that after they have used HFMUT to apply templates to documents, the target documents formatting will have been changed. These issues can be larger fonts, bold or italicized text, and date format changes when using fields that the AutoOpen macro is modifying. Extra line spacing could be caused by the styles used in the template being different than the styles used in the target document.
2. Resolution
This section will provide the resolution for the difference in formatting.
For issues with the environment variables in the headers and footers:
- Open the affected document in Word.
- Double-click the header or footer section to open it for editing.
- Press Alt+F9 to change the text values to field codes and look for the term MERGEFORMAT.
- Right-click the field with issues and choose Edit Field.
- Disable Preserve Formatting. If enabled, the setting will overwrite the target document settings.
For overall issues with formatting in the documents:
- Open the affected document in Word.
- Go to Options and open the Save area.
- In Font Embedding, check the option to Embed fonts in the file.
- Save changes and upload the document back into Ideagen Quality Management.
Check the print settings that are saved in the target document. It could be that the user that opened and edited the target document has specific print settings that are enabled when the document is saved.
