What does adding the manager distinction to a group allow those users to do? 

2. Answer 

The manager for a group is added so they will receive email notifications for the tasks in Inboxes that are considered very late (expedited). The manager status does not allow processing of a task. For example, if a group had a member and one manager, and was assigned as a responsible party on a workflow, only the member would have it in their Inbox.
