Adding headers and footers to documents using the Header Footer Tool (HFT)

Consistency in document formatting is crucial for maintaining compliance and professionalism. To make the process easier, you can use the Header Footer Tool (HFT) to apply standardised elements footers to documents efficiently.
This article walks you through the installation and usage of the HFT tool.
1. Installing the tool
To install the tool:
- Click the Profile button.
- Select User Preferences.
- Under Client Tools, locate the HFT.
- Click Download.
- Double-click the file.
- Follow installation instructions.
2. Using the tool
Before using the tool, ensure that a default document template with the desired header and footer is available in the Templates folder within the document tree.
To use the tool:
- Launch the tool.
This will bring up a System Information window. - Paste in the website URL.
Ensure the full path, including 'https://' is included. - Enter your Username and Password.
- Click Login.
- Under Select a Ideagen Quality Management (Core) Template, choose the prepared template.
- Under Select Ideagen Quality Management (Core) File(s) to Update, select the documents or folders to apply the header/footer.
Only compatible file types will be shown. - Enter Revision Comments.
These will appear in the document’s History tab. - Choose whether to:
- Increment the Revision Number
- Update Headers
- Update Footers
- Click Apply Template.
A log will display the status of each document. You can save this log for reference.
Important
You can use one file type to update another (e.g., DOCM to DOC), but Word files cannot update Excel files.
