Understanding permissions and workflow access
Who is this article for?
Administrators who manage reports.
Alter Reports and Create Reports permissions are required.
When accessing specific reports, you may find that you can't view it even when you have the right permissions.
This article explains how permissions affect workflow access.
1. Permissions behaviour
The Alter Reports and Create Reports permissions allow editing and creation of reports, but do not override report-level security settings.
Reports can be linked to workflows; without access to the related workflow instances, report data cannot be viewed. Users must be in the correct group with the necessary permissions.
2. Checking access
These steps may need to be performed by a System Administrator.
To check that you have the right permissions:
- Go to Reports.
- Open the relevant report.
- Go to Properties.
- Switch to the Security tab.
- Check that you have View Security ticked.
If you still can't access the report, make sure you have the correct workflow definition access.
